Behind the story, a man

Enzo Mirigliani was an Italian television personality and the head of the Miss Italy beauty pageant for over 50 years.

Born in Santa Caterina dello Ionio in Calabria, Italy, Mirigliani became the head of Miss Italy in 1959. Over the years, he created many other shows. He stepped down as head of Miss Italy in 2010, and died the following year at the Gemelli Clinic in Rome, aged 94. He was Commander in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Enzo Mirigliani was father of Patrizia Mirigliani and grandfather of Nicola Pisu. Patrizia Mirigliani is now carrying on her father’s legacy with the new editions of Miss Italia and Miss Italia nel Mondo. A dream that passes from father to daughter and seems to want to resist the passing of time.

Miss Italia broadens its horizons

Miss Italy in the world was a beauty contest that each year elected a girl of Italian origin residing in other countries of the world. It has been held since 1990 until 2012. The last year the formula was changed and this time the competitors were foreign girls residing in Italy for at least a year.

Conceived by Enzo Mirigliani in 1990, until 2003, the event was held in September, a week before the Miss Italia contest was broadcast. Since 2004, to avoid overlapping with the main competition, the event has been moved to June and from 2011 to July. In recent years, the competition leaves the location of the Berzieri Terme in Salsomaggiore Terme to land first at the Palazzo del Turismo in Jesolo and then at the Lungomare Falcomatà in Reggio Calabria. Finally, in 2012 the competition took place concurrently with Miss Italy, in September, from Montecatini Terme.

The nation that counted the most winners was Brazil, followed by Switzerland and Venezuela. The last edition was won by Aylen Nail Maranges from Argentina. The competition took place in Montecatini Terme and was conducted by Fabrizio Frizi under the artistic direction of Patrizia Mirigliani who had long since replaced her father.
